Titanic memorial cruise sold out

Tickets for a memorial cruise that is to follow the same route of the Titanic to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship have sold out.

Miles Morgan Travel, which has chartered the MS Balmoral ship from Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, said that the 1,230-berth ship would be filled with passengers from 26 countries, including relatives of 30 people who died on the Titanic for the 12-night cruise.

The ship will sail from Southampton on April 8th 2012. It will dock at the Irish port of Cobh, where the Titanic made its final call on April 11th 1912. On April 14th it will arrive at the spot where the vessel sank, with the loss of more than 1,500 lives. A memorial service will be held between 11.40pm – the time the Titanic hit the iceberg and 2.20am on April 15th, the moment the ship sank.

The voyage will then continue to Halifax, Nova Scotia, the final resting place of many who were on board, before sailing on to New York, the Titanic’s ultimate planned destination.

Passengers will be able to hear lectures from Titanic experts, buy memorabilia and sample menus that were offered on the original cruise.
