24/7 travel insurance doesn't just cover you for cancellation, emergency medical expenses and lost baggage – over 100 activities are included as standard, including scuba diving to 9m, surfing, hiking/trekking/walking, white water rafting & canoeing (grade 1 to 3) and bungee jumping. Click here for a full list of activities covered.
To help you have a safe trip, 24/7 Travel Insurance website has some handy tips.
Keep an eye on your possessions and sports equipment. Never leave your luggage or valuables unattended or with someone you don't completely trust. Be aware of pickpockets who tend to operate in crowded areas, with tourists being a potential target. Remember to lock up your luggage with padlocks and use safety deposit boxes at hotels and guesthouses (it’s worthwhile packing a few of your own padlocks in your luggage). Most travel insurance policies will include personal possessions cover for lost or stolen items – but it is worthwhile double checking the insurance policy documents first. Note: If you select a 24/7 ‘Backpacker’ policy, you will need to purchase ‘Premier’ cover to protect your possessions.
Make sure you have copies of all important documents such as your passport, tickets, travel insurance policy, itinerary and emergency contact numbers (insurance company, credit card company and British Consulate) and keep these in a safe place separate from the originals. Before you start your adventure holiday, set up a secure Internet email account. Email yourself and trusted friends or family your important documents - just in case!
If you are travelling within the European Union make sure you have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which will entitle you to free or reduced cost emergency medical treatment. Remember, the EHIC is NOT a substitute for travel insurance.
When travelling around the world, it is best to do your research to prevent any mishaps or mistakes. Check out any risks associated with your destination before you travel. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) provides guidance for travellers on its website www.fco.gov.uk/travel. It is packed with essential travel advice and up to date country-specific information where you can sign up for regular FCO Travel Advice updates so you can find out about any potential hot spots. Do check your travel insurance cover as most insurers will not cover areas where the FCO advise against travel.
Finally, don’t forget to take out adventure travel insurance before you leave home, just in case you have an accident or fall ill on your travels and remember to check the insurance policy wording to make sure you have cover for your chosen activity.
